    The Power of Resurrection

I sat there in the dark, reflecting on what my life had become.

The passion I once had for ministry was gone. The desire to see young people around the world impacted for Christ almost non-existant.

Life had taken its toll on me.

I had been working a low-paying, demeaning job for almost three years. I sat there, day in and day out doing the work a college student used to do - and would get paid more for if they decided to work at Taco Bell. I applied for better positions within the company, only to be rejected…and required to train those who took the jobs I didn’t get.

My finances were shot. Surprisingly, it’s near impossible to live on $800 a month. My credit card debt, which used to be non-existent, was climbing. And it urked me. It was either go into debt, or starve. I chose the former.

Every month it was getting harder and harder to pay the bills - and I knew it was only a matter of time before I couldn’t pay my mortgage anymore.

    Why am I still here?
Why am I trying to fight through this mess?
I’m not from this area. I have no ties here.
If God really wants me to keep doing ministry here, He needs to fork over the money. Or I’m out of here. And out of ministry. For good.

I curled back up on the bed as the depression set in.

Nothing’s ever going to change. My life will be like this forever - alone, miserable, and broke.

    I needed a resurrection.

    Advent Deeper: Prince of Peace

    peace_blog

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

    Prince of Peace.
It’s what the Israelites expected to find in their Messiah.

They were looking for someone who would bring an end to their oppression.
One who would overthrow their countless captors and rule their nation.
Someone who would restore prosperity, hope, and wealth into their hands.
One who could put an end to the centuries of turmoil, persecution, and degradation, and place them back as the apple of God’s eye.

The Israelites wanted rest from their struggles.
And they were looking for a Messiah who would bring it to them.

    Authoring Hardship

We tend to believe all hardship in our lives comes from the enemy.

We lose our job. The enemy must be attacking.
A family member gets sick. We think the enemy is behind it.
Accusations arise against us. We know the enemy is out for our reputation.
Money gets tight. The enemy is after our future.
The car breaks down. The enemy is messing with our day.
Work gets hard, the kids get in trouble and God’s promise doesn’t happen when we thought it would. The enemy is clearly to blame.

He is the author of hardship.
He is the master of pain.
He is the one who makes our lives difficult.

God would never author hardship in our lives.

    Stepping Stone Seasons

We don’t like the difficult seasons in life.
We don’t jump up and down for joy when everything goes wrong.

We struggle when the heavens seem silent.
We get uncomfortable when God doesn’t fulfill His promise in our timeframe.
We freak out when the job is lost, the family fights and our health dwindles.
We can’t stand staying in the dead end job longer than a day.
We hate chasing a dream, pursuing God’s call on our lives only to watch it all fall apart.
We find it unfair to do the right thing, flee from temptation, and pay the consequences of someone else’s sin.

We want every season to be a season of blessing.

    Propelling Seasons

Every season in life is different.
Every season has its own unique characteristics.

Some seasons are full of joy and prosperity.
    Others are rife with hardship.
Some seasons we anticipate with excitement.
    Others we would rather avoid.
Some seasons we look back on with fond memories.
Others we wish we could forget.
Some seasons bring the realization of goals and dreams.
Others bring those goals and dreams crashing down.
Some seasons bring ecstatic highs and depressing lows.
    Others make life seem mundane.

No two seasons are the same.
