Creating Sacred Spaces →
I live a pretty busy life.
Between working part-time at a community college, providing graphic design and branding services in a freelance capacity, trying to grow Ignite, leading a mission trip to the Czech Republic and co-leading another one to Romania, developing resources to help students and adults grow closer to God, sitting on the board of a local ministry geared to high school...
There's a difference between giving up and moving...
staypozitive:
Giving up is when you have a chance to change things, but you think it’s too difficult or not worth the trouble or just stop pursuing something and just give up on the spot.
Moving on is when you realize that you can’t change things or that it’s better that you don’t try any longer giving up or failure isn’t the best option. Moving on is another thing, moving on as in that you...

Says the chief weirdo… :P
I’m pretty freaking weird, I’m not denying that ;)
But at least I admit it.
…Jason, you reblogged this just NOW when this was posted like 2 weeks ago?
GET WITH IT WEIRDO
Tumblr has been stupid. I kept checking the jasonvana tag, and nothing was showing up except something I...

jasonvana replied to your post: John Green is an amazing writer.
What book are you reading?
His latest, “The Fault In Our Stars”. :)
I’m gonna have to check that out. I saw you post pictures of it a few days ago. Looks good!

Turning Away from Sin →
“Therefore this is what the LORD says: ‘If you repent, I will restore you that you may serve me.’” Jeremiah 15:19
Read through the book of Jeremiah, or really any of the Old Testament, and you might get the idea we serve a vengeful God.
Whenever the Israelites sinned, whenever they did wrong, whenever they made a mistake, didn’t sacrifice the correct animal,...

“But I was beginning to see, now that I was out of school, that the world was not set up for sitting and staring, that time was no friendly giant lofting me gently into the imagination.” — PATRICIA HAMPL, BLUE ARABESQUE
No, there is far too much to get done these days.
Get up. Make the bed. Get the kids to wherever. Do your work. Eat. Do your work. Do your work. Do your work. Pick up the...

Creating Stories of Change →
Last week, one of the young men I’ve had the privilege of meeting and working with in Czech came to visit.
We spent a lot of time hanging out and talking. We went out to eat quite a bit. Some of my students who came on the Czech 2011 mission trip took him around campus, let him visit some of their classes and even treated him to lunch in the cafeteria (not sure if was a treat, but...
12. Stop thinking you’re not ready.
– Nobody ever feels 100% ready when an opportunity arises. Because most great opportunities in life force us to grow beyond our comfort zones, which means we won’t feel totally comfortable at first.

Making a Lasting Impact →
This week, I’ve been blessed to have one of the young men I’ve met and ministered to during my trips to the Czech Republic at my house.
Adam Hlavka is one of those young men I connected with right away. He has an amazing passion for God, always stepping up during our mission trips to help lead outreaches, translate, drive our team around and was always available to help in any...
Got in a great run!
Now off to shower and get some work done while my Czech friend is at the college library doing some homework.

Complete Obedience →
Noah’s faith amazes me.
At the age of 599 (which I imagine is the equivalent of being 50 years old today), God shows up and tells him to build an ark, gather seven of every animal and prepare for a flood that would wipe out all living beings. He was given the exact dimensions, specific quantities and clear directions on how to build this boat. He was told rough timelines of when he...
Did you know I'm on Twitter? →
And no, it’s not just one of those accounts that links to all my Tumblr posts. I actually use Twitter for other things than Tumblr.
Feel free to follow me!
My friend from Czech is here!
It’s been a crazy night of funny stories, teasing each other, sharing thoughts on ministry and God, dreaming and visioning about Ignite and youth ministry in Czech and the future.
It never fails to remind me how blessed I really am to have friends around the world and be able to make a difference in the lives of people from all over.
God is good.

Free Lent Resources →
Tomorrow starts the season of Lent - those 45 days before Easter where many Christians take time to reflect on the power of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection and prepare themselves to experience new life. It’s a season of introspection, a season of reflection, a season of preparation and repentance as we journey to the cross and resurrection of Christ.
As part of my mission with this...

Lent Deeper: Facing the Darkness →
Every Tuesday during Lent, I will publish a Deeper devotion on the Ignite blog. It is meant to help encourage, strengthen and challenge you in your walk of faith. You can subscribe to receive these devotions in your email. Below is an excerpt from this week’s devotion:
“Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”...
